YouTube: The beginning of all things

We’ll start at the beginning. Did you know that YouTube began life as a video dating site? No? Well it’s true! The site was called “YouTube” because people liked to upload videos of themselves and try to find dates! What happened next changed the world forever.

A few years after the dating site was created, Google (which owned YouTube) decided to buy it for $1.65 billion. That’s a lot of money for a website that almost no one had ever heard of. Since then, it has become the world’s biggest video platform.

Anyone can post a video, and anyone can watch it. It’s a formula that has proven to be extremely popular, so much so that people are now making careers out of it.

Chad Hurley and Orrin Schmmacher

One of the first people to realize the potential of YouTube was Chad Hurley. He co-founded the site with his friend Orrin Schmmacher in 2005. A few years later, Google came along and paid them a lot of money for the website. As you can imagine, a lot of people wanted to follow in their footsteps.

Within a few years, many YouTubers had found success by uploading various video content. The most popular kind of video at the time was the Vlog. A vlog is a video blog. People who vlog typically film themselves going about their daily lives and then edit it together with graphics, music, and other effects to make it more exciting.

There are millions of vloggers on YouTube today, but the first one ever uploaded was uploaded by a man named Dan Mundy.

The birth of the vertical video

The first thing that people had to get used to when vlogging was the format of the video itself. At the time, most people filmed their Vlogs horizontally on a regular camera. They did this because most cameras also have a horizontal orientation.

However, that’s not the best way to film a Vlog because it wastes a lot of space. A vertical orientation is much more appropriate. After all, viewers don’t have a wide TV screen to fit everything in. They have a computer or phone screen that is much narrower.

Furthermore, people don’t have to fit themselves into the frame. They can frame their faces and leave the rest of the image for the recording device.

The first YouTuber is…

The biggest names on YouTube will always be the first YouTubers. We’ve already mentioned Dan Mundy, but there are also a few others who deserve a special mention. For example, Ryan Higa was the first person to film a prank video.

Smosh was the first ever sketch comedy group. There are also a few others who fit into this category, but we’re going to crown one of the first Vloggers. The first person to upload a Vlog was a man named Adam and Ryan.

They uploaded the first ever Vlog on May 23, 2005. The video is called “Two Bros One Mic” and was filmed using an early version of YouTube. It’s a shame that these YouTubers have never been properly credited for their work. They started a revolution on the internet and deserve to be celebrated for their efforts.

Chad and Orrin don’t take a break! They invent Flickr instead

Chad and Orrin didn’t stop at YouTube. They went on to create a number of other popular websites and apps. They founded the successful company Snap when they were still only teenagers and have been billionaires since the day they sold YouTube.

In 2002, Chad and Orrin founded a photo-sharing website called “Flickr”. The site was designed to let people share their images and photos online. Flickr was one of the first websites of its kind and has remained popular ever since.

In 2009, Yahoo purchased Flickr for $35 million. That was a huge amount of money for such a new and small company.
